He returned home and went to college at Highlands University graduating with a business degree. He returned home and began working at Millers Autoland Chevrolet dealership, where he met the love of his life Carolina Medina. They were wed in 1955 and were blessed with 4 wonderful children. He went on to be the manager at Kit Carson Electric where he worked for more than 20 years. He then started a private business Ricky’s Auto parts from which he retired in 1991.

Mondragon was a retired teacher and principal who received his teaching degree from Highlands University and a master’s degree from Adams State University. Joe is survived by his brother, Rudy, his partner and friend Lorenza, daughters, Deborah and Anissa, his grandchildren who he was very close to, Aristotle and Olivia, plus several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Orlando proudly served in the United States Marines, later he worked for many non-profit organizations within Taos County and founded the ARC, now known as Los Angelitos. He was preceded in death by his sons George and Timothy Salazar; parents Flavio & Reyesitas Salazar; in-laws George and Manuelita Chavez and brother Agustine Salazar. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday October 6, 2021 at 6pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. Rosary will be recited on Thursday October 7, 2021 at 9am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10am at San Francisco De Asis Catholic Church in Ranchos De Taos, with burial to follow at the Los Cordovas Cemetery.
